17/00708/AS – Erection of a 56-bed care home and 23 units for assisted living (Use class C2) comprising 16 cottages and seven flats (including Manager’s accommodation) with associated landscaping, parking, stores and service areas, estate roads, access and landscaping buffers on land north of 14 Westwell Court, Tenterden, Kent

Further to the recently submitted updated documents for this application, we wish to confirm that our previous objections remain valid, particularly in reference to the impacts on the existing public right of way; highway safety and detrimental impact on wildlife and biodiversity.

We wish to add to our previous objections as follows:

  • It is now clear, through local wildlife surveys, the site supports a number of protected species, including:
reptiles; amphibians; birds; bats and badgers – the proposed development would have a negative impact on
their habitat. We strongly object to any proposal to evict/ re-locate the existing historic Badgers’ Sett, and
add our support to a 2000+ signature local petition to protect this Sett.
  • We object to the removal and inadequate building buffer zone around the number of veteran trees on the
site, which also provide habitat for roosting bats and other wildlife
  • We object to the noise and light pollution impact on a relatively undisturbed tranquil site, bordering the town and prime AONB landscape
